Présentation

Mohamedy is a specialist in the field of human rights. He represents clients in cases pertaining to political and human rights. He has been involved in numerous cases brought against political opponents in Mauritania over recent decades.

Mohamedy is also an expert in electoral, parliamentary, and presidential litigation. He has represented candidates in local and national political elections.

He has frequently been consulted on proposals to amend laws, decrees and regulations. In 1991, he was a member of the commission responsible for drafting the Constitution of Mauritania.

Furthermore, he was a member of the national commissions responsible for drafting the reform of juvenile criminal justice (1997), the texts and regulations of the High Authority for the Press and Audiovisual (2005) and the texts governing the national mechanism for the prevention of torture (2014).

Mohamedy was also a member of the committee of experts in charge of studying the rules of ethics governing the legal profession in Mauritania.

He has participated in a number of studies pertaining to the Constitution, with a particular focus on the status of women’s rights, trade union freedoms, the conditions for a fair trial, the independence of lawyers and the shortcomings of Mauritania’s legal arsenal for people with disabilities. 

Furthermore, he participated in a study on constitutional appeals in the Greater Maghreb countries.

Mohamedy has accrued forty years of legal experience, during which time he has also represented major financial and banking institutions.He was instrumental in the drafting of numerous credit agreements between Mauritanian banking institutions and the Pan-Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (FADES).

Furthermore, he participated in a study of the eligibility criteria for FADES credit lines for the private sector in Mauritania.

He is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars organised by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Federation of Human Rights. 

He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the inaugural professional congress for lawyers in Mauritania.

Mohamedy is a member of the Association des Juristes Mauritaniens, a founding member of the Union des Ligues Maghrébines des Droits de l’Homme, and a member of the Commission Nationale des Droits de l’Homme.

He previously held the position of Secretary General of the Mauritanian League for Human Rights.
